Tools for DIY fools

The Gadget Show  Tuesday 30 December 2008

Tools for DIY fools Mean to do up your house in 2009 but you’re about as handy as the Milo de Venus? You’ll need these power tools…

1 Black & Decker 18V Compact Chainsaw Everyman has to have used a chainsaw at least once in his life. It’s like a rite of passage. The same as changing a tyre, cooking on a BBQ and eating so much meat that you start sweating uncontrollably. This little bad boy is a pocket rocket with an 18V battery. It’s also wireless and will have no trouble chopping up those overgrown trees in your back yard.

2 Tonino Lamborghini Combi Hammer Drill This hammer drill is designed by the son of the car manufacturing legend and tool aficionados Silverline. You couldn’t dream up a duet like that. It’ll sort all your nail/screw conundrums in a whiz all for £160. How’s that for a Lambo?

3 Bosch Rotak 37 Li Keep your lawn trim even if you’re not with the Bosch Rotak Li. Equipped with a lithium-ion battery that charges to 80 per cent in just half an hour, and weighing only 14kg, it’s the ultimate portable mower for bijou lawns.

4 The Power8 Workshop We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: this is essentially a shed in a box. It’s a drill, jigsaw, circular saw, halogen torch, there’s a spirit level, protractor, push stick, post lever and a nylon carry bag. All the tools are wireless, but you do also get a battery pack just in case. Seriously, you won’t need anything else. Well, maybe a vacuum and some plasters.
