The ultimate in crystal clear audio? Taking audio clarity to a whole new level

High-end speaker systems don’t just sound great, they look great too. But if you’re looking to make the ultimate style statement with your home AV kit, you’ll go a long way before finding anything quite like Greensound Technologies’ range of stunning glass speakers.

We’ve certainly come across glass speaker enclosures before, but Greensound’s speakers aren’t made of glass just for the visual appeal – the glass is actually integral to how the speakers produce sound.

The units at the base of each speaker vibrate, and these vibrations are then transmitted through the various glass elements above, each of which produces different frequencies of sound. And because the vibrations are generated upwards from each speaker’s base, the sound produced is completely non-directional.

A number of different models and ranges have been introduced, including a 150W glass subwoofer, and there are various lighting options too that use the panes of glass to provide illumination.

As you’ve probably gathered by now, these aren’t exactly your everyday speakers, and ominously Greensound’s product information doesn’t make any mention of price. Which normally means you probably can’t afford them.

They certainly look good! Greensound’s website gstspeakers.com shows a more impressive Serac speaker series but at $33,000 USD for a set of 4 speakers and a sub (not inc shipping), I’m thinking slightly out of my price range. $8,000 for the range shown here, maybe gadget show will have a set in their prize draw one day.
