The iTablet lives after all thanks to X2
It's the iTablet, and it's not made by Apple
One of the biggest debates in the build-up to last week’s iPad launch was what exactly Apple’s slate would be called. Some said iSlate, others iTablet, and others still iPad.
And while Apple itself went for iPad, UK gadget maker X2 thought enough of the iTablet name to slap it on its own tablet.
Full details are still in the pipelines, but X2 says there will be two iTablets, a 12in XGA model and a smaller 10.2in TFT version, both with standard VGA resolutions.
And impressively, they appear to have the beating of the iPad in several key areas. X2 says “Intel-based” processors will run at speeds of 1.6GHz, with 2GB of RAM backing it up. Also outdoing the iPad is the 250GB of storage, three USB ports and a 1.3MP webcam.
Connectivity also puts Apple to shame, including Bluetooth, (optional) 3G and Wi-Fi, while the iTablet will come with a full version of Windows 7.
Apple is no doubt unworried about what it will no doubt see as a nuisance challenger from a little-known rival, but the iTablet seems at the very least to be more than just a cleverly named gimmick. No news from X2 on prices yet.

Interesting, but seems to be little more than netbook specs. Even though it's running Win 7 (which even as an OSX user I think is great), I'd be hesitant to pass any judgement on usability until we see how the GUI handles the touch interface. If it's too awkward to use, people won't want to use it. For me Windows seems best suited to keyboard and mouse. As much as people have bemoaned the iPad for lacking features, and being little more than a giant iPod, it's GUI seems exactly right for 'pick up and play', with as little fuss as possible.
