The Gadget Show Gadget of the Decade is...
Can you guess what the winner is?
It’s official: the Apple iPhone is the Gadget Show’s Gadget of the Decade, as voted for by you.
In a special awards edition of the Gadget Show last night, Apple’s all-conquering wonder-phone made off with the grand prize as the single most important gadget of the last 10 years.
And it’s no real surprise either – the iPhone’s very existence has completely transformed the mobile phone industry, singlehandedly making a touch interface and online app store must-have items for any half-decent phone.
Needless to say, the iPhone was also named the phone of the decade in the awards extravaganza, with the Nokia N95 and 3310 getting honourable mentions.
Another all-star Apple gadget triumphed in the music category, with the ubiquitous iPod the only name ever really in the running, while the family-friendly Nintendo Wii held of the Sky+ box to triumph as the best piece of entertainment kit.
Online video phenomenon YouTube got the nod as the best computing product of the decade, while Adobe Photoshop Elements was voted the best in the photography category.
A big thankyou to everyone who voted, and well done to the worthy winners!

The iphone - such a worthy winner!! I voted for this in all categories where it came out top, so i'm really pleased my votes counted. Had one of these wonderful devices for several months now and it's taken over my life - for the better! More reasons to stay in regular contact with friends etc with email, calls and text. While being able to listen to my tunes, play games and download useful applications that work and aid my day to day life. Do you really need anything else....?

This gadget has changed my life ... my friends and family used to hate that my mobile phone was never on because I could never be bothered to charge it. My Iphone is now an integral part of my routine and now I actually get use out of my mobile phone. Add to this the fact that podcasts and audiobooks that I have saved have enriched my work life while driving beyond compare. I love it love it love it such a worthy winner

Wow. Grats to iPhone. Seriously... Looks as though Time gave 4th place to iPhone and 1st place to Motorola Droid for gadget of the year. And since iPhone has been out for 4 years, I guess that means that Droid can't win that one yet. Maybe next decade?

Yeah the iPhone may be the current "thing", but in my opinion its not as good as the Nokia 3310 was in its day. With the 3310, Nokia brought a revolution to the mobile phone market. I know the gadget of the decade rankings were reached by a vote, but I feel like standing up for the 3310! With approximately 126 units sold worldwide and approximately 7 variant and still (although not in a brand new state unfortunately) available to buy, surely the Nokia is worth more than the iPhone (not in monetary value I admit)? I rediscovered the pure genius of the 3310 about a year ago after having a HTC Touch Diamond, coming to the conclusion that newer phones just aren't up to it. Modern phones just don't seem to last as long, the batteries aren't as good, the screens break, they don't bounce off pavements and such like. It occurs to me that there is less to go wrong with the 3310, and it shows, I own a second hand 3310 currently (no, I'm not 80 + years old!) and its bounced off many pavements, been dropped in many puddles, it goes kayaking and dragon boating with me, tell me of an iPhone that can do that! The 3310 may not have the swanky looks of the iPhone and no pretty colours on screen, but are you forgetting the inter-changeable covers?! The Nokia is an everlasting phone and one our generation will remember till death do us part. Long live the 3310 and good luck to the iPhone trying to out live it. *Stops the grammatically incorrect rant and leaves*

Bit late, but had to say, I hardly think it deserved gadget of the decade despite what many people think of it. It's slim, lots of apps, touch screen, and nearly everyone wanted one. But its technology was hardly anything to boast about. It came out without 3g in the first version, my phone had 3g in 2006, it took over a year for the iphone to be released again with it. And igt also took another upgrade just to provide a better quality camera capable of video, besides other features. It may provide lots of apps, when I looked through the store, I saw a lot of things that are really useful, or you'd hardly use much. Games being a different thing. The battery could not be removed, the reason for it being a flaw is if it failed, you would have to send the phone back to apple for a free replacement. But if the warranty ran out, apple don't care. You could find someone who can fix it, but that means opening it up, and if not done right could just completely wreck it. With a interchangeable battery you could just buy a new one to replace it, or have two one in use and one ready charged to use after the other runs out. I only have owned one mobile phone, so I definitely am not giving a biased opinion. The iphone is good in some ways, it combined all that technology into a single device, even though its really just an ipod touch with a phone stuck on and some upgrades later, to me making it more of a gimmick than some real advancement in the technology it makes use of. Maybe its just merely a stepping stone of things to come, but I'm glad I was not brought into the iphone craze.
