T-Mobile G1 Google phone officially steps up to the iPhone
The T-Mobile G1 is in town and is ready to duke it out with Apple's iPhone!
Damn, but we gadget-buffs are fickle. Only yesterday were we cooing over the iPhone 3G like school girls over a burly rock star who is, like, well fit and OMG just rulezzz. Well, now the iPhone 3G is so ovah!!!! Ahem, that’s because T-Mobile is about to launch the G1 – Google’s first not-so-tentative steps into the mobile market.
The phone formerly known as the HTC Dream packs Google’s smarty Android software and packs more than its fair share of features to get Apple customers wishing they could rip up their pricey contracts.
Like the iPhone, it packs 3G for super-speedy web browsing and GPS to get you out of Catford pronto – made even easier by Google Street View, which gives you an eye-view level of any route you wish.
It’s got one up on the iPhone’s messaging talents too, boasting a full QWERTY keypad bound to have BlackBerry’s feeling blue. Add to that an accelerometer, YouTube straight from the box and added Gmail talents and it’s quite the package. Not forgetting the iPhone trumping 3.2-megapixel-smile grabber.
It’s out in the US from October 22 for $179, and won’t be here until early November. Still it looks like it’ll put up a real challenge to a certain iProduct we can no longer rememember the name of. Who said we were fickle…

Yet in this weeks show (3 August 09) they didn't compare this or the current HTC Magic to the iphone, strange.
