Super AMOLED to go large?
The Galaxy S boasts Samsung's stunning Super AMOLED screen
Steve Jobs may claim the new iPhone’s Retina Display is the best mobile screen out there, but we suspect anyone having just taken ownership of a brand new Samsung Galaxy S might just disagree.
The Galaxy S boasts Samsung’s stunning Super AMOLED screen tech, delivering a whopping 800×480-pixel resolution, 720p video shooting and all-round jaw-dropping quality.
But if you like the sound of Super AMOLED but otherwise aren’t too keen on forking out for a Samsung mobile, the good news is that soon you won’t have to. The Korean company has announced plans to ramp up production of Super AMOLED panels so it can make them available to other manufacturers.
It’s currently working on an all-new production plant to produce increased quantities of the much-sought-after displays set to open next summer. The new plant will enable Samsung to churn out the equivalent of around 30 million 3in mobile displays a month, either for itself or others.
Perhaps even more interesting, however, is the notion of Super AMOLED finding its way into high-definition LCD TVs – a prospect that so far has been limited to Samsung’s testing facilities due to limited manufacturing capacity.
