Stylish storage for your Mac from Iomega

If you don’t like the idea of using Apple’s new iCloud online backup service, or just fancy the idea of backing up all your files to local storage, then few options are more stylish than Iomega’s Mac Companion hard drive. With up to 3TB of storage space, it also has a lot to offer when it comes to practicality.

However good solutions like Apple’s iCloud service get, some of us will always prefer a local backup – even if it’s in addition to online storage. It’s quicker to complete entire restorations if necessary, and you can always access your files irrespective of whether you have an internet connection or not.

First and foremost, however, it’s the design of the Iomega Mac Companion that wins us over. With a metal finish, it promises to complement Apple’s iMac, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air ranges perfectly. The casing for the hard drive also features a similar footprint to the base of the iMac, letting you rest it directly under the screen on the stand itself.

You’ll get extra USB ports on the Mac Companion – which is a welcome addition when plugging it into the Pro or Air, which both feature limited ports, and there’s also a FireWire connection. Unfortunately, Iomega has omitted Thunderbolt.

When it comes to storage space, the Mac Companion provides 2TB and 3TB options, with both drives available from the Apple online store and Apple shops worldwide.
