String-less touchscreen Kitara on order

String-less touchscreen Kitara on order Yours for $849, no strings attached

Who said guitars needed strings? Certainly not Misa Digital anyway, if the stunning-looking Kitara is anything to go by.

First spotted in prototype form at the beginning of the year, the Kitara is now available for pre-order ahead of an April delivery.

And it truly is a musical instrument like no other. Instead of boring all strings as seen on every other guitar since the dawn of time, the Kitara features a multitouch display with six cool-blue laser lines on the top to show you where the ‘strings’ are.

It has its own built-in synthesizer but is probably better suited to being used as a highly desirable MIDI controller device, with that multitouch display able to be used as a normal screen when the Kitara isn’t being played.

However, you’ll need not only musical talent but fairly deep pockets too if you’re keen on some Kitara action come April: Misa Digital has slapped an $849 asking price on its digital axe.
