Speedy Ricoh CX5 compact cam announced
Super-speedy autofocus goodness
Ricoh has unveiled its latest compact camera contender, the CX5.
Coming just six months after its predecessor the CX4 went on sale, it’s probably not much of a surprise to hear that most of the C5’s spec remains unchanged versus the current model.
However, one major difference is the presence of a hybrid autofocus system that cuts down focusing time on the CX5 to as little as just 0.2sec.
The system works by introducing an infrared distance sensor into the mix as seen on old film-based compacts. This sends a beam of light out to the subject and determines distance to the subject based on how long the light takes to be reflected back. It makes for super-speedy focusing regardless of how much zoom you’re using, and how much light is available.
Other than that you’re getting pretty much the same camera as the CX4, from the 10-megapixel sensor to the impressive 10.7x optical zoom and 3in display round the back.
The CX5 is out now, and costs £260.
