Sony shows off dual-view 3D gaming
A whole new take on multiplayer gaming
The problem with most gaming setups is that generally there’s only one console and one TV, and everyone has to share. And even though multiplayer gaming is technically a possibility, you have to split the screen in half and can easily get distracted by what the other player is doing.
Well, Sony might have found a solution. The electronics giant has developed a dual-view 3D mode for the PS3 that allows two gamers to sit on either side of the same screen and see a different image.
Shown off in London recently by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe senior director Mick Hocking, the new technology makes multiplayer gaming possible without having to resort to a split-screen mode. Each player sees only their own character, and in full screen too.
The downside is that anyone sitting in the middle will see a mashup of the two images, which is unlikely to be overly pleasant on the eyes – though Hocking revealed simply closing one eye will allow you to see the images separately.
This one’s just at the concept stage for now, but is surely a no-brainer addition to the PS3 gaming world at some point down the line.
