Sony shows its Google TV hand

Sony shows its Google TV hand Google TV, as interpreted by Sony

Hot on the heels of the Logitech Revue we wrote about last week, Sony has jumped into Google TV waters with both feet courtesy of its Sony Internet TV and Sony Internet Blu-ray player models.

Starting with the Internet TV, there are four LED-backlit models to choose from, starting at 26in and ranging up to a more formidable 46in. Google TV is baked right in, naturally, meaning you can juggle online and more typical TV tasks interchangeably.

As for the Internet Blu-ray player, it’s much the same deal as the Logitech Revue plus of course Blu-ray-spinning credentials thrown in for good measure.

You have the choice of using the button-overloaded Sony Google TV remote to control the pair, or simply an Android mobile phone if you want to keep the button count under control. Being from Sony you also get the company’s video-streaming tech as well as PS3 synchronisation.

For now Google TV remains a US-only luxury, with prices starting at $399 for the Internet Blu-ray player and running into four figures for the bigger TVs, but we’re told the service – and Sony’s hardware, therefore – will be headed for the UK early next year.
