Sony PSP2 next generation portable gets official
It's real, but you can't have one yet
Sony has officially launched its PSP2 handheld gaming console, or the Next Generation Portable (NGP), as it prefers to call it.
And it certainly seems to have made a huge leap forward in embracing that new generation. At a special launch event in Tokyo this morning, Sony revealed that it’s new baby gaming machine is just as powerful as the full-size PS3 thanks to its quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor.
As we were expecting from an inside leak earlier in the week, it features a 5in OLED touchscreen, which can be used for specific in-game actions, plus there’s a further touchpad round the back.
Sony has added a second analogue stick to the right of the screen, and there’s also a camera front and back, which opens up all sorts of augmented reality possibilities.
Connectivity hits a level never seen before on a handheld gaming device, with 3G and Wi-Fi both on board, and you’ve even got GPS too.
It all sounds like something we simply can’t wait to get our hands on, but sadly that won’t be happening any time soon. As we mentioned earlier in the week, the PSP2 / NGP will only be available at the end of the year.

"Sony revealed that it’s new baby gaming machine is just as powerful as the full-size PS3 thanks to its quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor" - translation: "Battery life will be measured not in days, hours, or even minutes, but in seconds" I have to charge my phone at least once a day, and often twice. That's with GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi etc turned off. A huge processor and a decent sized screen like this is going to have are going to need something special in terms of a massive capacity battery...

Hello, Brief note that The PSP2 has had a deadline set for the making of the PSP2. The day of its unveiling will be in August. So in the mean time Sony will release the full trailer and there will be a press release just like the PS3.
