Sony PSP sales top 50 million!
The Sony PSP: selling at a rate of 12.5 million a year. Impressive, no?
Sony has just announced that it has sold a whopping 50 million PSPs in all its incarnations, since its launch in December 2004. That’s roughly the equivalent of the population of Italy!
This comes as good news as Sony has taken a battering in recent times from Nintendo, with the PlayStation 3 being outsold by the Nintendo Wii and the DS dominating the handheld market. With the announcement of these figures, however, it seems Nintendo isn’t actually dominating the portable gaming market as much as everyone thought.
Sony has sold roughly 12.5 million PSPs a year since its launch, and the fact that there are now over 2,000 UMDs available worldwide, and software sales of 200 million to date, suggests the PSP is still a force.
Now if you could get everyone who owns a PSP to jump up and down whilst playing their PSPs at the same time, absolutely nothing would happen… apart from maybe shifting the Earth off its axis and causing total global destruction. Apart from that, though, nothing.
