Sony PS3 getting 3D Blu-ray update
The Sony PS3, soon with 3D Blu-ray playback
There’s no question that 3D is one of the hottest TV technologies around, but it doesn’t come cheap, and after forking out for a 3D-capable TV you might begrudge having to upgrade your Blu-ray player too.
Well, the good news for Sony PS3 owners is that you won’t have to. Sony has revealed it will be rolling out the much-anticipated v3.50 firmware update for its multi-talented console next week, with 3D Blu-ray topping the list of new features it will bring with it.
The PS3 is already capable of playing 3D games – a feature added with the previous firmware update in April – but next week’s update will connect it with a fast-emerging new market: owners of 3D TVs looking for ways to bring the rest of their home entertainment system up to the same level.
In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony promises the 3.50 update will introduce other new features to the PS3 too, but doesn’t go into any detail. The update will be available on September 21.
