Sony outs two new pairs of iPhone-friendly headsets
Sony MDR-EX300iP: one of two new sets of "made for iPhone/iPod" headphones from Sony.
iPhone and iPod owners looking to upgrade the bundled earbuds for something a little classier now have a couple of new options. Sony has just pulled the wrappers off the MDR-EX300iP and MDR-E10iP, two sets of in-ear headphones fully specced-up to work seamlessly with Apple’s portable gear.
How so? Well, all three of Sony’s sets (the new models join the already available MDR-EX38iP) feature in-line remote controls for common iPod and iPhone functions, including volume adjustment, play/pause and skip track, plus the VoiceOver track ID function on the iPod Shuffle. Not only that, they all come with a built-in microphone for hands-free iPhone chat.
Sony claims the MDR-EX300iP delivers “studio-quality” sound thanks to a 13.5mm Neodymium driver unit. This is oriented vertically in your ear, which reportedly improves sensitivity, bass and dynamic range. Four sizes of silicon earbud are provided.
The MDR-E10iP, meanwhile, teams up the same Neodymium driver with soft ear-pads (designed for smaller lugholes) and a more fashion-conscious look. It comes in four different finishes – pink, gold, blue and grey.
Both sets of headphones will go on sale in May.
