Sony NEX-5 gets 3D update
Sony NEX-5 – now with an added dimension
Owners of Sony NEX-5s and NEX-3 compact “DSLR” cameras will now be treated to an added dimension on their posh new camera, thanks to a firmware update that will allow them to shoot in 3D.
The upgrade adds a few new enhancements, the most jaw-dropping being the addition of 3D shooting to Sweep Panorama. The NEX-5 and NEX-3 cams have already impressed with their ability to shoot seamless panoramic stills, but now an extra 3D option should mean stunning extra-wide images that you can enjoy on any 3D-compatible display, such as a 3D Bravia.
The update is only needed for NEX-5/NEX-3 cameras with Version 01 firmware currently installed. Cameras shipped with Version 02 firmware or higher are already updated with the new features. Other improvements include decreased power drain when the camera is switched off and quicker start-up in low-light conditions.
The ultra-portable Sony Alpha “DSLR”s were released in May this year. Both use interchangeable lenses and feature HD video recording.
The free firmware download is available for the Sony Support site.
