Sony leafs through new Readers
When's a book not a book? When it's an e-reader. Introducing Sony's latest crop...
The e-reader war is hotting up! Sony has just outed the Sony Reader Pocket and Touch e-readers for the UK, you know, for people who like reading but don’t like carrying a library’s-worth of paperbacks in their bag.
The Sony Reader Pocket and Touch are both up for pre-order now from the likes of Waterstones, but why should you be getting ready to dust down your reading glasses? Well, the Sony Reader Pocket sports a five-inch E Ink screen, 512MB of on board memory and USB 2.0 sideloading. And with a £180 price tag it’s in the same class as the Cool-er.
The Sony Reader Touch meanwhile, as the name suggests, sports a finger-friendly six-inch display and the Oxford English Dictionary installed. Just in case you’re reading something by Chaucer. Elsewhere, you get an SD card slot so you can carry round War and Peace no probs, and a price tag of £250.
What we won’t be getting is the Sony Reader Daily Edition. That’s only being released in the States for now and has 3G and a seven-inch screen! What gives Sony? Oh well, you can’t have it all we suppose!

These ereaders are a great idea, but why can't we get new releases as ebooks (they are available in the US). Its a bit like apple marketing ipods, but you can't get up to date music on it just Oldies and Classical. What would be the point!! If you are a techie, why would you only want to read classic novels??? And really why are you going to pay £7 plus for a 5 year old ebook when you can get them anywhere for £3??? Book retailers need to think about using a format like the apple store (how many places can you download music from?) there are only 3 ebook retailers in the UK - so why can't we buy from the states????
