Sonos S5 downsizes for mobile tunes
Sonos S5 – piping your tunes anywhere in your house
Multi-room wireless music specialist Sonos has introduced the ZonePlayer S5, a cut-size player you can carry around with you.
It resembles any number of high-end iPod docks, and indeed does much the same thing. Except instead of an iPod slotted in on the front, the S5 pushes out music from Sonos’ wireless music system.
The Sonos system creates a closed network to fill your house with sound, with satellite units (or ZonePlayers) placed around the home and feeding off a central system – and potentially all playing different music, controlled locally.
The music itself can be stored on a PC or Mac, or can be piped in directly from web services such as iTunes, Last.fm or Napster, with no computer required. For Sonos newbies, the S5 can hook up to your web connection as the hub of a Sonos network, or can join an existing one.
The ZonePlayer S5 houses five speaker drivers each powered by a dedicated digital amp, and is available now for £349.
