Sharp Aquos Freestyle: a battery-powered wireless HDTV
Televisions at CES 2012 have so far impressed with their size and visual muscle, but there has been some very cool innovations at the show, too, like Sharp’s Aquos Freestyle range of completely wireless full high definition portable televisions.
A built-in battery means you could even carry them around with you, redefining the concept of portable viewing.
Samsung’s stunning 55-inch OLED stunner
The 20-inch Sharp Aquos Freestyle comes with its own battery, carrying handle and kickstand to make it easy to prop up and place wherever you fancy.
So potentially you could place the Aquos Freestyle in your garden when having the neighbours, or friends over for a little BBQ action one summers day, or easily move it from bedroom to bedroom. The battery lasts two hours – enough to watch most shows including The Gadget Show. Not bad for a full 1080p HD TV set.
For more permanent sojourns, the larger 32-inch, 42-inch versions do not feature a battery, but still retain the low weight and carry handle, so are at least easy to transport around the home.
Each set comes with a base station connects to the Aquos Freestyle giving the television its own Wi-Fi connection. Standard HDMI ports give the Aquos Freestyle the same connectivity options to connect to a Blu-Ray player as more conventional TV sets.
The Sharp Aquos Freestyle Line will be launching in Japan soon. For now there doesn’t appear to be plans to bring the range to the UK, but that doesn’t mean we can’t hope.
