Samsung YP-R0: a nano beater?

Samsung YP-R0: a nano beater? Has the Samsung YP-R0 got the pips to take on the nano?

Alternatives to well-known fruit-named PMPs are ten a penny. Decent ones are rarer to come by. The Samsung YP-R0 is an eye-catching portable media player, with a number of potent weapons at its disposal, that’s got the iPod nano firmly in its sights.

Entering the PMP battlefield with a 2.6-inch touchscreen display, the Samsung YP-R0 has 8GB of storage for holding around 2,000 of your favourite war-themed tunes or around five hours of video (Platoon anyone?), an FM tuner, a microphone and a microSD card slot for expansion.

With regards to formats, the Samsung YP-R0 doesn’t discriminate. It supports pretty much anything you throw at it: MP3, OGG, WMA, ASF, FLAC, WAV, AAC, MPEG4, WMV, JPEG, PNG, BMP, and GIF. So a pretty potent little player, then, considering the whole shebang weighs a feather-lite 60g. And all this for €130 or around £110. Not bad Sammy. Not bad at all.

I have has a zen with and sdhc slot but on the zen it is pointless as you can not use it as additional storage to play music from. Killer question does the player see the additional micro sd card as more memory and therfore music files can be played as a part of a play list from theplayer or more importantly if you select to play all tracks randomly does it also use tracks on the sd card and the main memory without choosing which you use.
