Samsung TouchWiz to join app party
Samsung opens TouchWiz touchscreen platform to developers; app store to follow?
App stores have been popping up almost as frequently as Walmarts, and the latest application shop that looks likely to hit the web is the a TouchWiz app store: bringing apps to the Samsung TouchWiz interface like Amy Winehouse brings paparazzi to a party.
After the likes of the iPhone App Store, BlackBerry’s App World and Nokia’s Ovi Store, it looks likely that Samsung will be bringing its apps to Samsung phones sporting the TouchWiz interface (such as the Samsung F480 Tocco) via its own app store.
Samsung’s opening up the TouchWiz platform to developers, so users will be able to come up with everything from Facebook to flute-playing widgets for the homescreen. Imagine something a little HTC Hero’s Sense profiles if you will. Samsung’s yet to actually confirm an app store, but it looks more than likely that these widegets will be available to download through an app store.
The Samsung TouchWiz interface uses web languages, which means any widgets will run across all phones with the UI, from Symbian to Windows Mobile. Huzzah! Now if only they were all actual smartphones. Oh well, you can’t have it all!
