Samsung shows off 55in glasses-free 3D TV It's coming, but you'll have to be patient

Tech giant Samsung has used the FPD China trade show to reveal a 55in TV prototype that offers up glasses-free 3D viewing from nine different viewpoints.

The high-tech prototype, says Engadget, also lets you switch straight to 2D mode at any time thanks to being able to change the optical refraction index of an extra LCD panel placed on top of the conventional LCD you watch programming on.

Samsung says it will be looking to accommodate LED backlighting in a final version, rather than sticking with a conventional LCD panel.

So when will we be seeing this final version, then? Samsung says we’re realistically talking about three years. May as well get comfortable with those specs, then.
