Samsung SH100: loves your Galaxy S phone
Samsung's SH100: your Galaxy S' BFF
There’s not much to tell most compact cameras apart these days. But Samsung’s new SH100 certainly raises the Gadget Show eyebrow thanks to an innovative new feature that allows you to pair it with a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone via Wi-Fi and use the Android phone to control the camera remotely.
The Galaxy S effectively acts as a remote live viewfinder, allowing you to compose and zoom your shots, then fire the shutter when you’re ready. It neatly side-steps the need for a self-timer and should allow for some creative composition ideas. You can even geotag pics thanks to the Galaxy S’ GPS chip.
Back to the camera itself, the sensor is a 14.2-megapixel CCD affair, while the Samsung lens offers 5x optical zoom and you can record 720p video as well as those remote-control snaps.
It’s not clear yet whether the SH100 will only be compatible with the Galaxy S, or will be able to hook up to other Android phones too, but we do know it will be touching down in March for around £200.
