Samsung Q10: affordable switch-grip camcorder
A friend for either hand
Samsung has launched the HMX-Q10 – the first ever mass-market camcorder to offer switch-grip control so you can operate it with full access to all features using either hand.
The secret to the Q10’s ambidextrous shooting ability is all on the 2.7in touchscreen. Aside from the record button and zoom ring, all the camcorder’s controls are accessed through the touchscreen, and thanks to its ability to swivel through 180 degrees and an on-board accelerometer, you can switch from left to right hand without losing any loss in control.
Versatility aside, the Q10 has plenty else to recommend it too. Full HD shooting is a no-brainer these days, and the Q10 can also record at 60fps in 1080i mode, with Samsung’s OIS Duo system on board to keep the shakes out of the picture.
Other features include the likes of face detection, smart record pause – which allows you to pause continuous recording of a single clip – and a smattering of manual modes for the more experimental types.
We’ve yet to get a UK price for the Q10, but over in the US it will cost $299 once it drops in February.
