Samsung outs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 bicycle!

Fancy a tablet accessory with a difference? Samsung has just the thing – it’s a Galaxy Tab 10.1-branded custom-made bicycle with a special bracket along the top bar to accommodate your Android slate and keep it accessible while you’re out on the road.

To be honest we weren’t sure whether to take this seriously at first, but looking at the calendar we’re about as far away from April 1 as it’s possible to get, so it seems it must be real.

The bike itself, which is made by 14 Bike Co, is a fairly standard affair, and available in a couple of configurations.

However, the interesting bit is the detachable Galaxy Tab holder constructed from carbon to keep the weight down, which allows you to effectively suspend your Samsung slate downwards between your legs and use it while on the move.

“Accessible from the side, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 holder allows for the device to be used easily whilst on the move,” Samsung tells us.

“Applications such as dashboards tracking mileage, route planners and repair instructions for punctures, can be downloaded from the Android Marketplace to enhance everyday cycling routes or more adventurous trips – a handy addition for any cyclist.”

We can certainly see the appeal, but can’t get past how dangerous the whole thing sounds. Surely the only way you’d be able to use it would be to peer down at an angle through your own legs? In other words, it would be practically impossible to use while actually moving. And then there’s the risk of stones, mud and water flying up from the road surface and damaging your precious tablet.

A nice idea, then, but we wouldn’t be expecting to see too many on the road!

Acessible while riding? They might as well attach it to the handle bars. or create a bike nav which is powered by spinning wheels
