Samsung Galaxy Player now on sale
Samsung's answer to the iPod touch
Samsung’s Galaxy brand of portable devices really is branching out. First we had the smartphones, headed by the brilliant Galaxy S, then the Galaxy Tab tablet, and now this: the Galaxy Player.
Packing Google’s Android OS and with a fresh set of gloves to go toe to toe with the iPod touch in a battle for PMP supremecy, the Galaxy Player has gone up for pre-order on Amazon ahead of its official release on Friday.
Featuring a 3.2in AMOLED touchscreen and supporting all the major audio and video formats, the Galaxy Player certainly has plenty going for it. It comes with Wi-Fi and DLNA compatibility for hooking up to your home network and sharing media files, and of course you can load it up with apps aplenty from the Android Market.
There’s a choice of 8GB or 16GB capacities, with more storage possible via SD card. Amazon is asking £150 and £180 respectively, though regardless of which flavour you go for, you’ll have to be satisfied with white at this stage.

"Featuring a 3.2in AMOLED touchscreen" This is incorrect as the screen is a TFT LCD not AMOLED unfortunately. I pre ordered the 16GB one from amazon.co.uk and I'm looking forward to getting it. This will be my first android device but I know a lot about it and currently have a phone that suits my needs so getting a new android phone wasn't worth it as this was a lot cheaper.
