Samsung announces Android phone for 2009

The Gadget Show  Friday 19 December 2008

Samsung announces Android phone for 2009 The Samsung Omnia will be getting an Android makeover for 2009. Woo hoo!

The Androids are coming! No, not robots called Ann, these are the Google Android phones that are so coveted. Having seen T-Mobile’s G1 this year, and with the announcement that Sony Ericsson will be releasing an Android phone next year, it’s no surprise that Samsung is following suit.

The Korean mobile phone company has confirmed that it will be releasing a handset with the Google OS by June next year. It will essentially be a souped-up version of the Samsung Omnia. More details are thin on the ground, but with so many Androids scheduled for release next year it certainly looks like being the year of the mobile (NB Not an official Chinese Year Of).

No doubt more news will be incoming about the Android invasion after next year’s Mobile World Congress in February, and we’ll keep you abreast of all the developments.
