Retina Display behind iPhone 4 delays?
iPhone 4 - 600,000 pre-orders in just 48 hours!
It’s safe to say that demand for the stunning new iPhone 4 has exceeded even the most optimistic of predictions. But according to one analyst, the predicted shortage of stock on launch date this Thursday is nothing to do with Apple having misjudged public demand, but rather down to problems with its touchscreen.
Apple’s latest wonder-phone racked up an incredible 600,000 pre-orders in just 48 hours after Orange and O2 announced their price plans, no doubt largely motivated by the Retina Display, Apple’s name for the stunning high-def display that dominates the iPhone 4’s front.
But it’s that very feature that could see many users waiting a lot longer than expected to get their hands on their new iPhone, says analyst Ashok Kumar, who told investors that Apple has been forced to halve its estimate of being able to ship four million handsets a month because of issues with the display.
It seems the Retina Display’s in-plane switching, which controls the pixels that make up the screen, has been giving problems. Kumar says the problem is expected to be sorted out by August, but nonetheless it’s likely to mean a lot of frustrated iPhone fans between now and then.

I would have said that the most exciting new piece of hardware would have to be the 3pitch Gyroscope... thats what i'm buying it for, the amount of possibilities are endless especially when integrated with augmented reality.

I can't believe this. I've sold my ipod touch to have enough money to get the iphone 4 and now I'm told I might not be able to get one as they will be sold out :( What a downer
