PS3 PSN changing to Sony Entertainment Network ahead of PS Vita launch
Ahead of the PlayStation Vita launch (PS Vita), Sony has announced that all PlayStation Network accounts will soon be known as Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) accounts. It is, says Sony part of its plans to integrate gaming under the same banner as the rest of its entertainment and media. But what does this mean for you?
The name change, thankfully is a straight-up rebranding. “This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network,” Sony revealed in an email to PSN subscribers.

“This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
With the many entertainment services already on the PS3, the move would appear to make sense. Current services include BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and LOVEFiLM. The move to rebrand the PSN network as Sony Entertainment Network comes just over two weeks ahead of the PS Vita’s 22 February launch.
The PS Vita is also able to play music and movies on a smaller scale, and is also billed as an entertainment device. The name change will be introduced with next PS3 and PS Vita software update on 8th February. So don’t be surprised to switch on either console and find that your PSN account is mission. It has just had a name change. That’s all.
