PlayNow Arena: Sony Ericsson's very own app store
Mobile phone app stores are springing up faster than netbooks nowadays. And that’s saying something. It was Nokia’s Ovi Store the other week, and now Sony Ericsson has announced that it is following suit with its very own app store: PlayNow arena.
Sony Ericsson announced today that it will be teaming up with GetJar to form the greatest partnership since, erm, those two from the Krankies. What that pairing means is Sony Ericsson’s PlayNow arena will have hit the ground running with around 45,000 free apps available from the very start!
The apps from GetJar will be available for a number of handsets and mobile operating systems and will complement a series of premium apps from Sony Ericsson itself. As with other app stores, third party developers will be able to get creative and submit their own Java ME and Symbian-based apps starting from July 1.
There’s still no news as to when PlayNow arena will go live, but we’ll keep you abreast of developments as they happen.
