Philips takes on iPod Shuffle with Go Gear Spark
The Spark has a lot to offer for the money...
Philips has ripped the covers off a brand new mini MP3 player with Apple’s iPod Shuffle in its crosshairs. The 41×41mm Go Gear Spark is available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB versions and features a tiny OLED display. The Shuffle lacks a screen and comes in only 1GB and 2GB versions.
MP3, WMA and JPEG files are supported, and Philips has included its Fullsound technology to boost audio performance. Fullsound uses algorithms to restore sonic data lost when tracks are compressed. Philips quotes battery life at 27 hours per charge.
The 2GB and 4GB models go on sale later this month, priced at £39.99 and £49.99 respectively; you can buy alternative models with FM tuners for £5 extra. The 8GB flagship Spark will be available in May, priced at around £59.99.
