Philips outs DS900 audiophile iPod dock
Philips DS900 – audiophile iPod dock
The Philips DS900 has just been released, and it’s a high-style iPod dock that could give the B&W Zeppelin a run for its money.
The curvacious body of the Philips DS900 is constructed using Veneer Lamination technology – a technology that’s normally used for building high-end furniture. Apparently the layers of lacquered wood help to eliminate unwanted vibration, reflections and standing waves.
As well as its build, the Philips DS900 takes its digital signal direct from your iPod or iPhone before processing it through top-notch digital to analogue conversion, so that your tunes sound truer.
Nestling inside the posh body of the D900 are two 1inch tweeters and two 4inch dome woofers contained in there own separate chambers. Bass pipes with a chrome-plated centre deliver deep bass at the rear. You can even tweak the sound using the free Philips Fidelio+ iPhone app which packs a five-preset equaliser.
The Philips DS900 is compatible with any iPod or iPhone, including iPhone 4, and Philips claims the flexible mounting system will let you to keep your player in its case while docked. It’ll also act as an alarm clock and comes packing a proximity sensor so it’ll light up and welcome you when you approach. Nice.
The Philips DS900 will set you back £399.99 and is available now.
