Philips NP2900 streamer sports supersized sweet spot
Philips NP2900: a larger than average stereo sweet spot
Philips has just ripped the wrappers off a new digital audio streamer capable of wirelessly dragging music from your PC’s hard disk, as well as accessing thousands of web radio stations – but there’s much more to it than that.
The compact NP2900 comes packing LivingSound technology, which Philips promises will fill your room with finely balanced, distortion-free music akin to a live performance. Big talk, but according to Philips LivingSound delivers the goods by widening the stereo sweet spot into something that basically covers an entire room. It does this by combining an impressive array of drivers, amps and digital signal processing.
The NP2900 also has FullSound technology, which jazzes up highly compressed MP3 files by “filling in” details lost in the compression process. Tracks end up sounding more like CDs, with greater dynamism and “sparkle” than is expected of MP3.
The NP2900 will be out later this month, priced at around £249.
