Petrol or pedal power from the Derringer Cycle
Like the idea of cyling to work but just can’t be bothered pedaling up the bigger hills? The Derringer Cycle could be the perfect solution, packing a 50cc engine into its frame so you’ll no longer be stuck behind the local bus.
The retro design of the Derringer Cycle looks like something out of the 1920s, more motorbike that regular push bike. It does feature pedals, however, so you will be able to get a good workout on the daily commute.

We’d imagine it would be quite a strenuous workout as well, as with a 50cc engine and a petrol tank behind the handlebars, it’s not likely to be a lightweight option!
It does look like a piece of art, however, which is backed by the $3500 price tag. On the plus side, if you decide to opt for petrol power, you’ll get a staggering 180 miles to the gallon, with a respectable top speed of 35mph – perfect for the inner-city commute.
Would you buy the Derringer Cycle, if money is no object? Or would you stick with an electric option? Or pedal power all the way? Leave a comment and let us know.

not a new concept I had a 50cc bike built by Raleigh 40 years ago however with the spec of this you are going to need a motorcycle licence as the speed restriction is 30 mph on motor assisted bicycles electric makes more sense

If wasn't for the price tag I would buy one straight away, no questions asked! Electric is way better than petrol but I'm hooked by the retro design and forgive me the ecofriendly commuters but I'm a petrol head still! the noise and smoke carry on captivates me...hehehehe

If the engine was vertical it would lower the point of balance, making it less likely to topple over, the exhaust would be shorter and lighter, and projected in a more horizontal position to give air push. The tank could also be mounted lower to improve balance this would allow it to be narrower with less drag. Somehow only one drive chain. I could probably solve problem too,but i am not on the payrole. Otherwise great idea just do not get to version 10 before you get it right.

I would like this bike, just without the engine, it. could be set out in a much better way than depicted, but, it wilp merely be a statement.
