Pentax outs tough-talking WG-1 rugged cam
Colourful and built to last
We’re getting a lot of camera news at the moment, and Pentax is right in the thick of it with its new WG-1 and WG-1 GPS rugged compact cameras.
Being destined for a life of physical punishment usually leads to distinctive design decisions, and sure enough Pentax’s new tough cams are both chunky and colourful. Those rugged credentials include being waterproof to depths of up to 11m, shockproof to falls from up to five feet, crushproof to forces up to 100kg, and happy to withstand temperatures as low as minus 10 deg C.
Inside there’s a 14-megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom and 720p movie mode. The 2.7in rear LCD has an anti-reflective coating for when you’re testing out those temperature extremes in the snow, while the pricier WG-1 GPS gives you the option of geotagging exactly where those extremes are located.
Pentax’s tough-tackling new cameras will be available next month, and have been tagged with an RRP of £299 (WG-1 GPS) and £269 (WG-1).
