Pentax K-5 DSLR unveiled
The Pentax K-5, out next month
Pentax has launched its latest tilt at the mid-range DSLR market, the K-5.
Based on the existing K-7, the new arrival boasts an all-new low-noise CMOS sensor with a resolution of 16.3-megapixels, which teams up with the Prime II imaging engine. Pentax claims that the result is more true-to-life image reproduction that its previous efforts.
ISO range is a solid 100 to 12800, but that can be boosted to a formidable 80 to 51200 courtesy of a custom feature.
A number of other improvements and refinements are on board too, including faster autofocusing speed, an improved High Dynamic Range function now available in handheld shooting.
Burst mode is a middle-of-the-road 7fps, while Pentax has also thrown in a range of other minor tweaks aimed at making the K-5 more functional and manoeuvrable than past Pentax DSLRs.
On the back is a 3in display, and pics and videos are saved to the ubiquitous SD memory card, though surprisingly the latest SD XC format isn’t supported.
The Pentax K-5 goes on sale in October for £1,199 complete with an 18-55mm WR kit lens.
