Panasonic unleashes 3D LED TV arsenal

Panasonic unleashes 3D LED TV arsenal The DT30, Panasonic's debut 3D LED telly

Panasonic has rebooted its home cinema assault for 2011 with a whopping 10 ranges of Viera TVs, including its first ever 3D LED sets.

The 3D-capable DT30 series heads up a trio of LED ranges, and features IPS Alpha panels for the first time, which offer a better viewing angle, scanning rates of just 2ms and allow for a significant reduction in the dreaded cross-talk that afflicts so many 3D TVs.

There are two screen sizes to choose from, 37in and 32in, and both are compatible with the Viera Connect web portal for app-downloading goodness. Wi-Fi and DLNA are also on board, as well as a quartet of HDMI ports and three USB connections.

Aside from a further couple of non-3D LED ranges, a full six of the 10 new lines introduced by the Japanese electronics giant are plasma ranges, a notable reinforcement of Panasonic’s place at the forefront of plasma development.

Head of the pile is the VT30 series, which offers 3D plasma goodness in four screen sizes going up to 65in.

The new sets should be in stores by mid-year, though it’s too soon to talk about prices.

No-one wants a 3D tv. It's a gimmick. People won't wear silly glasses at home. What we actually want is for tv companies to broadcast in 1080 HD so we can finally get some value from the huge tv sets we've been exhorted to buy over the last few years. Some channels (like C5)have only recently got around to putting stuff out in 720 (pseudo-HD) but at least that's better than watching the old "Standard Definition" on a 40 inch set which, of course, sucks.
