Panasonic gets snappy with rugged new FT3
Panasonic's latest tough cookie
Panasonic has announced a quartet of new compact cameras freshly baked for 2011. Top of the bill is the FT3, a rugged camera designed specifically for outdoor use. Of course, a lot of cameras throw around the overused ‘rugged’ label, but this strong-arm snapper has more right than most.
Like the FT2 before it, it’s dustproof, can survive drops of up to 2m and will happily take on temperatures of minus 10 deg C without so much as a grumble. It’s also waterproof to 12m, an increase of 2m over the FT2.
Surprisingly, the resolution has dropped a couple of megapixels to 12.1MP, but it also has 4.6x optical zoom and boasts full HD video recording for the first time. On-board GPS will let you know exactly which far-flung adventure spot you’re visiting while snapping away on this rugged contender.
Panasonic has also announced the high-end FX77 – complete with 3.5in touchscreen – as well as the 16x optical zoom-wielding TZ20 and the lower-end TZ18.
All the new arrivals should be out in March, with pricing yet to be announced.
