Palm Pixi due in November
The Palm Pixi: sprinkled with some webOS fairy dust, but cheaper than the Pre.
Palm has revealed that the Palm Pixi, its second webOS-based mobile phone and the followup to the impressive Palm Pre, will launch in the US on 15th November. The Pixi, which offers both a touchscreen and full fat QWERTY keyboard, will be a more affordable phone than the Pre – although a couple of features have been trimmed to keep costs down.
The main casualty is Wi-Fi, which is a big loss for a smartphone. The camera is also 2MP rather than the Pre’s 3.2MP snapper, while the screen is slightly smaller and lower in resolution.
Otherwise the Palm Pixi looks like a very exciting prospect. It’s beautifully thin at just 10.9mm, and weighs just 99.5g to boot, but it offers 8GB of storage, Bluetooth, GPS, an accelerometer and a 3.5mm headphone socket. It’s compatible with the Palm TouchStone wireless charger too.
We don’t have a UK release date, carrier info or price just yet, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for the facts as they appear.
