Orange outs San Francisco Android phone

Orange outs San Francisco Android phone The £99 Orange San Francisco

Mobile network Orange has launched the San Francisco, an own-brand Android-powered smartphone that checks in at just £99.

The first in what Orange tells us will be a series of Android handsets, the San Francisco features a broad base of smartphone staples in a neat candybar-style handset.

The 3MP on-board camera, MP3 player and built-in FM radio will keep you entertained, with a 2GB microSD card in the box to top up the 150MB of internal memory.

But the real attraction is a whole host of on-board Orange apps and services, including Orange Maps, Orange Messenger by Windows Live, Orange App Store, Email and Orange Wednesdays, all tied together by the Android 2.1 OS running underneath.

Connectivity is well catered for thanks to the presence of Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth and 3G, while the battery is good for four days of talk time and nine days on standby.

The San Francisco is available for £99 on Orange’s Dolphin pay-as-you-go tariff, which gives you internet access and 300 free texts every time you top up by £10 or more.

Surely that's fours hours talk time, not four days! :-)

I think you will fing that the "Attraction" (as you call it) IS the single reason most people are put off buying this phone....Orange have a terrible habbit of taking any decent handset and totally destroying it by cramming all the horrible ugly orange bloatware on there. However i see that after a few days since the SF has been released there is already a hack avialable to install custom roms on the device which removes all the Orange crap....Now it suddenly seems a more attractive deal.
