Olympus lifts the curtain on wallet-friendly E-PL1
An affordable PEN snapper has broken cover
Olympus has been teasing us with images of a mystery new Micro Four Thirds DSLR over the past week, and now full details have finally emerged.
The PEN E-PL1 is the third addition to Olympus’ retro-styled PEN range, but comes in at an all-new price point to give entry-level DSLR buyers a taste of the Micro Four Thirds action.
The headline figures remain impressive, though, with a 12.3MP LIVE Mos sensor joined by HD video shooting. Olympus has thrown in 19 shooting modes and several beginner-friendly special effects – with a Live Guide letting you preview the result before committing.
On the video front, the E-PL1 introduces a dedicated Record button around the back for instant video-recording action, while it’s also the first PEN to get a pop-up flash built into the camera.
The best part, however, is the price, which has been pegged at $599 in the US – just £375 in the Queen’s money, though the UK version will invariably come in at a touch more than that when it goes on sale next month.
