Nokia + Intel = awesome netbooks?
Nokia and Intel have signed an historic agreement. Roll on the awesome portable devices
Nokia and Intel have come together in what could be the greatest partnership since, erm, Ant and Dec. Okay, bad analogy, but you get where we’re going with this: Intel-powered smart phones, Nokia-style netbooks, the possibilities are endless!
So what exactly does this agreement entail? Well, Nokia and Intel have agreed to develop a new class of Intel Architecture-based mobile computing device and range of chipset architectures. What that means in English is that the two companies will work together to develop faster chips, chipsets and technologies to make the next generation of mobile devices super-fast.
The real question is, though, what do you get when the world’s largest chip maker teams up with the world’s largest mobile phone maker? The obvious answer would be the world’s largest smartphone. But nobody wants that. Both companies have said that the partnership would centre around several open-source mobile Linux software projects, including the Moblin platform for Atom-based processors and the Maemo operating system developed by Nokia.
Whatever Nokia and Intel produce, you can be sure it’ll be exciting and enough to shake the mobile device world to its core!
