Nokia drops Ovi brand, say hello to Nokia Services
After a couple of years of pushing its Ovi service, including the outstanding Ovi Maps, Nokia is set to kill Ovi, re-branding it to Nokia Services.
At times, Ovi is brilliant – check out Ovi Maps for instance, or the old Ovi Files service. However, it also struggles when it comes to more simple tasks, such as syncing, with rivals proving better.
Nokia is set to overhaul its software service, dropping the Ovi brand and sticking to Nokia Services. Part of the change is so Nokia can easily roll out its services across all future platforms, so there will be no issues finding mapping or music services on Nokia Windows Phone handsets.
Whether the company will update any of its software at the same time – we’d like it to be easier and more intuitive to sync a Nokia phone by cable, for instance – remains to be seen, but the re-branding will take place between now and 2012.

This seems to be a complete waste of resources. Nokia should be concentrating on getting their hardware and a decent replacement for symbian which is well past its sell by date, as is their hardware.
