Nintendo Wii HD by 2011? Square Enix box predicts Nintendo's console to get an update by 2011

The Xbox 360’s got it. The PlayStation 3’s got it. But what about the Nintendo Wii? Well Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada believes that the big N will have a Hi-Def version of its motion-sensitive console ready to go by 2011.

Talking to the Financial Times at Tokyo Game Show, Yoichi Wada had some intersting insights into the way the games industry is headed, including a prediction that the Wii 2 (or Wii HD) will launch by 2011 with a similar “functionality” to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Okay, so he didn’t actually call it High Definition, but the logical next step for the Wii is surely improved graphics, given that it’s already go the motion-sensing side down.

This is still only one man’s prediction, but what do you think? What do you want to see from the next crop of consoles? Do you want to see an HD Wii? Let us know in the comments section…

I don't think Nintendo will bother with a Wii HD, by 2011 there will be another PlayStation out, (wether it's a new console or yet another trimmed/slimmed version we don't know) and a new xBox out, there will be a re-vamped 360 with Natal hardware built in mid to end 2010, not long after which they will announce a new xBox.. What will be the point of a Wii HD coming out when Natal is out, and Sony's motion controller will be out by then too? the 'big N' will think of something else to do, it will most likely be HD yes, and may even play Wii games, but it won't be a Wii.

I know this article was written some time ago, but the point that was made about Sony releasing a new Playstation in 2011 is laughable. There is absolutely no chance in that happening what so ever. Hackers have only just now cracked the Master Keys in the PS3 so that means there will be a lot of development for the PS3. Even if Sony did decide to release a 4th GEN Playstation, no one would buy it right now as there will be dones of hack mods for the PS3. But as I said earlier there's no chance in Sony releasing a new Playstation in 2011 if at all!
