Nike + FuelBand encourages slouches to get fit
The Nike+ FuelBand is the sports company’s latest dabble in the world of fitness tech. It’s a wristband that tracks wearers daily activity, recording vital stats such as time spent on-the-move, calories, steps treaded and what Nike is calling NikeFuel.
Sounding like an idea taken from a video game, NikeFuel is essentially points earned for being active. Wearers set an activity for the day, and determine how many NikeFuel points to go for – the aim being to get that NikeFuel score.
UFC Personal Trainer: The Ultimate Fitness System review
It’s a novel idea that Nike will be hoping adds a bit of self-competitiveness to staying active, be it through daily routines, jogging or more sweat-inducing exercise.
Throughout the day the Nike+ FuelBand keeps record of the NikeFuel score being totted up as its 20 LED lights gradually go from red to green as you approach your target, essentially acting as a self-motivational tool, and a handy way of knowing when you’ve done enough activity for the day, without the feeling of pushing yourself more than you should have.
The Nike+ FuelBand works by using accelerometers to to record activity, which can be uploaded to a computer through Bluetooth or USB to the Nike+ website to track your progress and history.
The Nike+ FuelBand will be in stores in the UK from 1st May at a cost of £139.
