Nexus Prime launch event rescheduled for October 19th
Samsung and Google have decided to continue with their launch event for the Nexus Prime, pushing the launch date back a week until the 19th of October.
Today should have seen Samsung and Google’s joint launch event for the Google Nexus Prime – the latest in the line of ‘official’ Android devices that represent the cutting edge of Android handsets. The event was cancelled late last week as a mark of respect for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, with executives from both companies feeling that launching a high profile product so close to his untimely death would be insensitive.
The event has now been rescheduled and will take place on Wednesday the 19th in Hong Kong according to an anonymous source. The Nexus Prime is – according to rumour and leaked specs – a powerful new dual-core handset with a 1.2 GHz A9 processor and at least 1GB of RAM.
The Prime’s camera will support 1080p HD video and the screen will be a 4.56 inch AMOLED HD display that is said to run at 1280×720 resolution. This whole package should be around 9mm thick and rumours point to the screen being slightly curved, like the Nexus S.
The launch was also meant to reveal Android 4.0 – dubbed ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ – a new build of the operating system that combines the phone and tablet-focused flavours of Gingerbread and Honeycomb into a unified whole.
The nexus Prime should run ‘pure’ Ice Cream Sandwich with no extra user interface bells and whistles. One of Google’s goals with this release is to improve the interface to the point where such additions are unnecessary.
