New Toshiba TVs have Blu-ray decks built in
One less box to have tucked away underneath...
How times change. Just a couple of years ago Toshiba wouldn’t go near Blu-ray, having backed HD DVD in the next-gen disc format wars.
Fast forward to 2011 and the Japanese tech firm is all aboard to the extent that its newly announced Regza RB2 tellies will come with Blu-ray players built right into their attractive frames.
The new screens come in a choice of three sizes covering the most popular options favoured by LCD consumers – 26in, 32in and 40in, and despite the built-in Blu-ray spinner lined up down the right side their profile measures in at a fetchingly slender 49mm.
That aside the spec includes an LED-backlit full HD panel powered by the latest iteration of Toshiba’s Regza Engine technology, while the new sets are also compatible with the Regza Link and Regza AppsConnect platforms.
So far the Regza RB2 range is only available over in Japan, where they go from between £790 and £1,275, but we’ll no doubt be seeing them here in the UK at some point later in the year.
