New DRM-free MP3 logo campaign kicks in
When you spot this logo you'll know your MP3 download is DRM-free
Seven of the major music download sites have teamed up to promote an “MP3 compatible” logo to combat confusion related to music that’s Digital Rights Management (DRM) free – that’s music that you can download and put on any device any number of times.
The aim is to swiftly raise awareness of DRM-free music files that’ll work on any product and help you identify legal download sites. HMV, Digitalstores, Tescodigital, Tunetribe, 7digital, Woolworths and Play.com will all be using the logo to show that their MP3 download music will work on all devices. It’ll also help set them apart from iTunes, where the majority of tracks are DRM-encypted and will only work on Apple products.
It means no more downloading music and finding out it doesn’t work on your music player.
