New Marantz iPod dock ditches the wires

New Marantz iPod dock ditches the wires An achingly cool iPod dock from Marantz with no hasslesome wires

Searching for the right iPod dock is a bit like searching for the perfect wife: there’s plenty of choice out there, but that really good-looking one might just end up giving you a headache and costing you a load of money. The Marantz IS301 iPod Wireless Dock looks to buck that trend with some nifty features. You see, not only is it pretty discreet, it’s also wireless (hence the name).

The cradle uses Bluetooth 2.1 A2DP and Bluetooth AVRCP for cable-free communication with a receiver that links to your hi-fi via normal audio leads. It can then stream both audio and video from your iPod or iPhone 3G, and even allos the user to control their hi-fi on a Marantz receiver.

You can also hook the dock up to your computer and synch it to iTunes via the USB port, but the most impressive feature is the detachable docking port, which means your iPod doesn’t have to sit in the dock cradle to stream music to the receiver. As long as it’s within range (around 10 metres) it’ll still stream audio.

Right, we’re off to play Manowar’s Violence and Bloodshed at full volume, then hide in the bathroom when our neighbour comes round with a hammer.
