New MacBook Pro, iMac incoming
The iMac - going 'mainstream'
Taiwan’s usually reliable DigiTimes is claiming that Apple is priming new a series of new MacBook Pro models and an new iMac to appear in the first half of next year.
DigiTimes’ sources say “at least four” new MacBook Pro models are expected, with the most likely reason for the refresh being the emergence of Intel’s second generation of Core processors early next year.
While the new systems will essentially just refresh the existing MacBook Pro line, potentially adding more on-board storage in the process, the sources claim there will be a “slight change” in design, and the new arrivals will all be sporting OS X 10.7 Lion.
As for the rumoured new iMac, apparently we can expect a new “mainstream” model, whatever that means, with a different screen size to the current 21.5in and 27in models on offer. It seems unlikely that Apple will go smaller than 21.5in, yet mainstream surely suggests cheaper, so the cuts will have to happen elsewhere if the new model is to undercut the current £999 asking price for the entry-level iMac.

It's about time Apple went a bit more mainstream with their prices. If they want to break more into the mainstream family home market they need to price their products more in line with the equivalent PC products.

That's the whole point; Macs aren't mainstream and you get what you pay for. It's the whole Apple Mac experience which comes a price but it is worth it in the long run. And if u must have windoze...it'll run on a Mac

is it possible to upgrade your current mac to the latest mac once it's released?

"You get what you pay for" ?! Whats that then? An overpriced, shiny, glossy video and photo editor? I've just spend a grand on a new PC that totally blows Macs out the water. Macs are extremely over priced for the power they provide. Saying that, yes I do like them and they've defintely got it in the style department but I really do hope this means the prices will be coming down into a more reasonable area.

Have you noticed how people that use PC's always moan at apple for just being shiny and nice to look at. Its because you know absolutley bugger all about apple and how much more superior they are to windows. You pay more because everything is built with super high quality materials, (rather than plastic) space age technology, massively amazing retina display monitors, awesome built in sound and no bloody waiting around for it to log in. The bottom line is your just trying to fight the power because youre stuck with your old PC. Doesnt matter what latest model of PC you have it will never be any match for an old mac pro! Its like the apple vs android situation! Everyone knows apple produce the most efficient phones as well! Android are trying bless them...
